Ingredients
- 6 Pink Lady apples, cut into ½ inch cubes (any tart apple variety works)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon lemon zest
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon Prana Kitchens Chai Masala
- 1 cup water
Directions
Add apples and the other ingredients to a saucepan. Place the saucepan on the stove on medium heat and bring the apple mixture to a boil. Cover and simmer with the lid on for 15-20 minutes, stirring periodically.
- Take the lid off and use a spoon to check if the apples are cooked —if you are able to mash the apple cubes, the applesauce is ready.
- Turn the stove off and allow the applesauce to cool slightly before mashing the apple pieces roughly with a potato masher. You could also use the hand blender if you prefer a smoother consistency.
- Let the applesauce cool completely before storing it in an airtight container; it will thicken as it cools. Enjoy as a topping on yogurt or crackers, or just by itself!
